General Insurance firm Source Insurance raised a staggering £5000 for leading Welsh cancer charity, Tenovus Cancer Care, as a result of a gruelling middle-of-the-night climb to the peak of Mount Snowdon.
12 staff members took their 4-hour car journey from their base in Cardiff to Wales’ area of outstanding natural beauty, Snowdonia National Park, on Saturday, June 24th to embark on the Tenovus Twilight Trek. Caffeine fuelled and head-to-toe in waterproofs, the team began their demanding ascent of the 1085m tall mountain as the rest of the UK enjoyed its final doses of Saturday night television before bedtime. The resilient team battled treacherous conditions, with their only source of light being their miniscule head torches.
Collectively the team’s end goal was to reach £2500, but thanks to the generosity of their peers, families, friends and affiliates of Source, the company raised a remarkable £5,750 for the charity.
Mhairi Jones, Running and Challenge Events Manager at Tenovus Cancer Care said “We’re so grateful to everyone at Source Insurance Limited for joining Team Tenovus Cancer Care on our first ever Twilight Trek in Snowdonia. Despite the weather, it really was a fantastic event and we are delighted to announce that they have raised over £5,000 for us!”
Phil Lewis, Head of HR at Source Insurance said “We like to break the mould at Source and get involved in events that are just that little bit different, therefore the Tenovus Twilight Trek was just the ticket for us. We love working closely with charities, especially those who are local to our headquarters, to make a difference where we can. Whilst it was no doubt a challenge for us all, the team and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat to see the amazing response of the Tenovus team as we revealed the total amount raised on our giant cheque. It was a priceless experience and one that the team will remember for years to come”.
The ‘Twilight Trek’ marks the beginning of a relationship between the charity and Source Insurance Limited who hope to continue raising significant funds for the charity this year.
