Optimising your free Google Business Profile (GBP) can be a very profitable use of your valuable time - especially if you want to be seen in the Google local results (maps).
Let's begin with one of the least understood features of GBP.
You can create three main types of Google Posts: updates, events, and offers. But why should you take the time to publish them? Put, simply, Google Posts are like free advertising on Google. They’re a powerful way to showcase your brand, highlight your products and services, and promote any special deals or events you have going on.
These posts are one of the most effective ways to convert visitors directly from your Google Business Profile into customers. And the best part? They’re incredibly easy to create:
Log in to your Google Business Profile.
Click on “Add Update.”
Choose the type of post you want to create—update, offer, or event.
Upload a photo and enter your text.
Click “Post.”
One post per week can keep your profile fresh and engaging for potential customers.
Now, let’s talk about how to make your Google Posts truly stand out and drive clicks, conversions, and sales.
Google Posts vs. Social Media Posts
It’s important to remember that Google Posts are different from social media content. On social media, people are often there to be entertained, learn something new, or catch up with friends—not necessarily to make a purchase. But when someone visits your Google Business Profile, they’re often ready to buy.
So, your Google Posts should focus on your services, products, specials, and offers—not on entertaining or educating your audience with non-business-related content.
Here are four types of Google Posts That Convince and Convert
Services: Highlight specific services you offer. When potential customers see that you provide exactly what they’re looking for, they’re more likely to convert.
Case Studies: I’m a huge fan of using case studies in Google Posts. They’re a compelling way to showcase your expertise and drive direct conversions.
Awards: If you’ve won any awards, flaunt them in your Google Posts. People are more inclined to trust and choose an award-winning company.
Reviews: Don’t let your best reviews get buried. Repost them as Google Posts to give them extra visibility and leverage their power to convert new customers.
Events and offers are also fantastic for grabbing attention. If you don’t have a current offer, consider promoting a local business’s offer—they’ll likely appreciate the shoutout and might even recommend your business in return! The same goes for events—if you’re not hosting one, spotlight a local event and let the organizer know. They might just return the favour with a recommendation on their profile.
With these strategies, you’ll not only keep your Google Business Profile active but also make it a magnet for prospects.
