Staff going the extra miles for The Donna Louise...

09 July 2019

STAFF from Leek United are planning to take the long, scenic route into work this month (July) in aid of The Donna Louise Hospice for Children and Young People*.

Branch Manager Richard Czapski and colleagues from the Society’s St Edward Street branch in Leek will be quite literally going the extra miles for the charity throughout July.

They have organised a series of 10-mile dawn walks from the Branch and back before clocking on for work on consecutive Monday mornings.

Their ‘Walk To Work’ challenge began on 1 July, with an early return footslog around Tittesworth Reservoir – and they will be following it up with similar walks to and from: The Hollybush Inn, Denford (8 July); Rudyard Lake (15 July); and Stockton Brook (22 July).

Accompanying Richard on the walks – each of which is expected to take around three hours – will be fellow St Edward Street team members Julie Collins, Lucy Moulder and Jeanette Pickup.

“I’ve extended an invitation for other colleagues to join us ‘come rain or shine’ – although I doubt there will be much sunshine at 5am, which is the time we’ll have to start each walk,” said Richard.

“We’re inviting donations from customers at the Branch, and we’re also selling raffle tickets to win a picnic hamper, with the draw being made once we’ve completed the last of the walks on 22 July.

“We will also be holding a coffee morning that day, to raise a few extra pounds for The Donna Louise – although we’ll probably be in need of strong coffee ourselves after all those early starts!”

Based in Stoke-on-Trent, The Donna Louise is one of Leek United’s main charity beneficiaries, and the Society is aiming to raise the sum of £10,000 for the hospice during 2019.
