The Brightstar Group Marks International Men's Day
15 November 2022
The Brightstar Group is holding a week of activities across Brightstar Financial and Sirius Property Finance to mark International Men’s Day on November 19th.
The Group will also use International Men’s Day as an opportunity to highlight the achievements and contributions of the men both from its Sirius and Brightstar businesses, with the women of both businesses leading these activities and using the occasion to acknowledge the value that their male colleagues bring to the workplace.
In addition, the Brightstar Group will hold a number of awareness building activities and discussions, aligned with the Group’s commitment to mental health and wellbeing. These will focus on the challenges faced by men such as:
- The high male suicide rate
- The challenges faced by boys and men at all stages of education and work including attainment, re-training, redundancy, and unemployment
- Men’s health (including male cancers), shorter life expectancy and workplace deaths
- The challenges faced by the most marginalised men and boys in society (for instance, homeless men, boys in care, school exclusions and the high rate of male deaths in custody)
- Male victims of violence, including sexual violence
- The challenges faced by men as parents, particularly new fathers, and separated fathers
- Male victims and survivors of sexual abuse, rape, sexual exploitation, domestic abuse, forced marriage, honour-based crime, stalking and slavery
- The negative portrayal of men, boys, and fathers.
International Men’s Day is a globally celebrated occasion which celebrates the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. It highlights positive role models and raises awareness of men’s wellbeing.
Rob Jupp, Group CEO of The Brightstar Group, said: “We are committed to celebrating the contributions and achievements of the men and women of our businesses and it is important for us to mark both International Men’s Day and International Women’s Day on an annual basis. It is important that we understand and talk about the issues which men face today in society. It is of deep concern to me, for example, that suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45 years of age. Raising awareness about men’s health issues in general and continuing to talk about mental health is hugely important, and as a sector we must make an ongoing commitment to do these things.”
The Brightstar Group has been a leading light in raising awareness about mental health and the importance of wellbeing, winning two awards in 2022 for its outstanding work in this field.
