“Let’s hope this slight fall becomes a trend and an indication, as some analysts are saying, that inflation has peaked.
“However, even if this is the case, we must also remember that prices will continue to rise well into 2023 and likely remain above the Bank of England’s two per cent target, which will continue to provide challenges.
“We must also remember that the headline figure is not a reflection of the real price rises in some construction materials, where costs are being inflated by more than 50 per cent by fuel prices.
“In other words, even if the trend is starting to fall, inflationary pressures will likely remain a factor for our sector and will continue to affect project plans and prices for some considerable time.”
