Phoebus cuts carbon footprint by more than two thirds

27 January 2025

Phoebus Software Ltd, the mortgages and savings account servicing technology provider, has reduced its carbon footprint by 69% since 2021. Its goal is to achieve carbon net zero by 2040, having been a carbon-neutral company since 2009.

The figures are published in Phoebus’ third ESG report, which outlines its work in 2023 to achieve the company’s environmental, social and governance goals. It also frameworks its five-year ESG plan.

The report reveals a 69% reduction in the company’s carbon footprint since its base year in 2021, when it measured 1,746.8 tCO2e compared to 547.5 tCO2e in 2023 - a reduction of 1.199 tCO2e (69%). It shows a 66% reduction in the company’s carbon footprint since 2022, when it generated 1,602 tCO2e. The report also demonstrates improvements across all emission scopes.

In 2023, Phoebus invested in carbon literacy training for the executive team and in service excellence training across the business. It reported a 9% decrease in attrition rate following investment in employee wellbeing, development and engagement. The company continued its partnership with the Helping Hands charity in Leamington, the Computer Science Industry Club at Aston University and its Talking Tech event in partnership with Agile West Midlands. It also retained the rigorous SOC 2 Type 2 data security attestation for information security.

As part of its future goals, Phoebus plans to:

  • Switch to green energy by 2026
  • Remove gas powered heating or move to more sustainable premises by 2028
  • Develop procurement policies to ensure new suppliers meet net zero goals
  • Swap out combustion engine company-owned vehicles for electric or hybrid alternatives by 2026.
