Jeremy Duncombe supports broker best practice through ground breaking podcast series

14 February 2025

Jeremy Duncombe, managing director of Accord Mortgages, is spearheading an innovative new podcast series aimed at inspiring brokers through the experiences of some of the industry’s leading lights.

Interviewing key figures from major intermediary networks, lenders, media outlets and trade bodies, he hopes the programmes will provide valuable information and encouragement to help brokers reach and remain at the top of their game in today’s volatile, competitive and fast-evolving marketplace, where their services are needed more than ever.

An offshoot of Accord’s Growth Series library of free educational content for brokers, the new ‘Mortgage Mentors’ podcast series, hosted by Jeremy, takes a monthly behind-the-scenes look at industry leaders, showcasing their career paths, inspirations, expertise and experience to help brokers and industry colleagues learn and grow both themselves and their businesses.

The first episode, published in January, features Ben Thompson, deputy chief executive of the Mortgage Advice Bureau, discussing what he believes are the current challenges and opportunities for brokers – as well as acknowledging how well those working in the intermediary sector have adapted to the turbulence of the last few years.

Ben shares his own personal story about the life choices he made at age 13 which made him the person he is today, and looks at the advice he would give to his 13-year-old self now. He also recognises the challenges brokers must navigate, including artificial intelligence (AI) and the changes it will bring – although he acknowledges that while AI has the potential to boost efficiency, it will not replace the crucial role brokers have to play. Ben also looks at what brokers should focus on for future success, including investing in technology, building business partnerships and ensuring that their businesses are robust enough to withstand any future threats.

The second podcast, published just this week, features Esther Dijkstra – Lloyds Banking Group’s managing director of intermediaries, where she reflects on the pivotal moments that have shaped her professional life, explores her career journey, and discusses her views on the evolving mortgage landscape, having grown up in a small rural village in the Netherlands, originally with career aspirations to become a prima ballerina. Esther also discusses the necessity for industry professionals to stay ahead of trends as well as to embrace innovation in the sector, in order to meet the evolving needs of clients.

Jeremy Duncombe, managing director for Accord Mortgages, said:

“This new series builds on something I feel very strongly about – leaders sharing their stories and experiences to give something back to the industry and support their colleagues and contacts - who would perhaps like to follow in their footsteps. Look out for more big-name guests in the coming months.

“The Growth Series was launched to support brokers with their personal development as well as to help them to grow their business through hints and tips on everything from marketing to compliance, and we’re really proud of how we’re evolving it to really maximise the value it provides.”
