As a specialist protection broker, we support customers with medical conditions every day, helping them find the cover they need. Here are the latest updates from The Insurance Surgery:

We’re pleased to share that critical illness cover is now more accessible for individuals living with HIV and Type 2 Diabetes, subject to the following criteria:
HIV
- Undetectable viral load
- CD4 count over 500
- No history of Hepatitis or TB
We can find a critical illness policy with no exclusions, only a small rating will be applied.
Type 2 Diabetes
- Age 40+
- Diagnosed within the last 10 years
- Well-managed condition with no complications
- BMI within a normal range
- Blood sugar & cholesterol under control
We can find a critical illness policy with no exclusions - a rating will be applied.
Mental Health – Life insurance
Clients with a history of mental health may now be eligible for standard life cover provided they meet the following:
- Condition stable for at least 12 months
Please note, there will be a permanent suicide exclusion, on this policy.
For those with a history of suicide attempts within 12 months, cover may be more difficult to obtain —but we’re happy to explore options on a case-by-case basis.
